The Tanzanian educational system operates on the 2-7-4-2-3+ system: 2 years of nursery level, 7 years of primary school, followed by 4 years of secondary school (Ordinary Level) leading to 2 years of Advanced Level. After 13 years of secondary school students may take the Advanced Certificate exam and attend college for 3+ years (for bachelor degree level). But a graduate student at ordinary level (Form IV) may decide to go direct at college level (takes Certificate followed by Diploma to Degrees) also a qualified graduate student at advanced level may decide to take 2-years Diploma or 1-year Foundation Programmes followed by 3+ years degree at College/ University level.
